From Garage Beginnings to Lampshade Shed Studio
I started Whimsy 13 years ago as a creative outlet while raising my son, Liam. What began in my garage blossomed into a Central City shop rooted in my love of craft. After two and a half wonderful years, I’ve now closed the shop and moved the studio back home.
In my shed studio, I’m making drum lampshades and handmade cushions, created with care for cozy, character-filled homes.

Are made from...
The drum shades are made by applying fabric to PVC lining and then rolling the top and bottom fabric around metal rings to provide rigidity.
The 300 micron white satin film is made in the UK. This material has an anti-static surface, UV-stabilised and fire-resistant.
The rings are made of strong 3.25mm steel wire for stability and shape retention with a white epoxy-coated finish. These are made in the UK.
Each ring has a reducer / converter adaptor fitted so the shade fits both common lamp holder sizes.
Use 8 -10 watt LED bulbs (60W equivalent) in floor lamps and bigger table lamps and 4 - 6 watt LED bulbs in smaller table lamps.

My studio philosophy is to offer a shopping experience that’s kinder to the planet. I focus on three simple principles: Less, Renew, Upcycle.
Less
I try to buy less by choosing well. I’d rather invest in a few quality pieces that last than lots of things that don’t. At Whimsy, I always value quality over quantity.
Renew
I love finding vintage lamp bases and giving them a second life. Every base is checked by an electrician so it’s safe as well as special.
Upcycle
I’m drawn to vintage textiles and use them to create new lampshades and cushions. Upcycling lets me turn well-loved fabrics into fresh, one-of-a-kind pieces for your home.
