About Whimsy: Eco‑Curated Treasures, Transparent Values
I started Whimsy 11 years ago as a creative outlet while raising my son, Liam. What began in my garage has blossomed into a Central City shop rooted in my craft background. My mission is to provide a soulful alternative to impersonal retail, favoring transparency and natural materials over the greenwashing and plastic of corporate stores.
I curate every item to ensure it is kind to the planet. I vet stockists for fair labor practices, sustainable materials, and plastic-free shipping. By partnering primarily with New Zealand makers, I minimize our environmental footprint while celebrating the incredible craft talent found right here at home.
Whimsy is a living showcase of the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' ethos. From my handmade lampshades to curated plants and organic textiles, I prioritize wood, wool, and minimal plastic. I ask the hard questions about supply chains so you don’t have to, creating a space full of inspiration, color, and natural beauty.
Our Values
What Sets Us Apart
The shop's ethos is all about providing a shopping experience that is more sustainable and planet-friendly. It is based on the tenets of Reduce Reuse Recycle
Reduce the amount you buy by buying quality items that will last longer
Reuse what we already have by buying pre-loved alongside new
Recycle unwanted materials into new creative products
Reduce
We have to reduce the amount stuff we buy, by being a conscious consumer. Buy less, but also buy quality items that are built to last. Whimsy promotes quality over quantity.
Reuse
We are one of a few shops that sell pre-loved alongside new items. A wooden bowl made in the 70's will have another 50 years of life left in it, when placed in to a caring home.
Recycle
I adore vintage fabrics and prefer to use these yo make lampshades and cushions. As a keen upcycler, the store is a showcase for how to repurpose old into new.
